The prelude to our London Launch

The whirlwind has started
Our big London launch has been in the planning stages for several months now and we're counting down the days before it begins, a few days from now. As usual, a whirlwind of activity begins in this period, and I feel like I'm a spinning top, directing the orchestra of trustees and volunteers as I turn. So, details of our exhibition: Journey into Exile- Artwork by children who escaped from Tibet into Exile. Venue: The Sweet Tea House, 264 Globe Road, Bethnal Green, London. It's a lovely gallery, set up by Gonkar Gyatso, dedicatd to promoting contemporary Tibetan art. Gonkar is a fantastic artist himself- in fact, he's one of the foremost (if not THE foremost) Tibetan artists in the West. He's very kindly letting us use his gallery for the launch of Art Refuge UK, so if you are anywhere near London, do come visit. The exhibition runs from Wednesday April 25th to Saturday May 5th 2007, Wednesdays to Saturdays, hours 1-7 pm. It includes some artwork by survivors of the Nangpa Pass shooting from September 2006 as well as (hopefully) some of the video footage taken by Sergiu Matei, the Romanian camerman who was in the vicinity at the time- powerful images indeed! And there will be a talk on Thursday May 3rd at 6pm entitled: Creative Journeys: Therapeutic Artwork with Tibetan Refugee Children, for those of you who want to know more about the Art Refuge Program.

I aim to update this blog on a regular basis during the exhibition to keep you informed of interesting things that may occur, fun and supportive people who may turn up, comments in our on-the-spot visitors book, etc. One thing I can guarantee- it's going to be an interesting 2 weeks!
